Proverbs: The God Kind Of Wisdom

Proverbs: The God Kind Of Wisdom

Journey with us each Sunday at 10:30 AM as we look at the Book of Proverbs and gain wisdom and insight from God’s Word.

This series is about the wisdom God has given us in the Book of Proverbs. By this wisdom we can learn how to live in light of what is really true about ourselves, one another, and this wonderful yet deeply flawed world. Proverbs offers an infallible guarantee that life will result in spiritual and practical blessings, but it is vitally important to remember that the goal of Proverbs is not finding earthly prosperity or even wisdom itself. The goal of Proverbs is to grow ever closer to the God who is Wisdom.

Schedule

June 28th – Intro

The journey through Proverbs is an extraordinary opportunity to consider a book of ancient wisdom expressed by God Himself. In week 1, we will consider the following questions: What is wisdom? What is a God kind of wisdom? Where do we get wisdom? What are the positive benefits of obtaining wisdom? What is the value of wisdom? The Scriptures say wisdom is more precious than wealth, fame, power, or anything we desire. Wisdom helps us handle and make decisions in the midst of complexities of the realities of life. This is a practical sermon series to help us attain a greater measure of wisdom.

July 5th – Words

Our words have incredible power. Solomon said, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” Our words can be incredibly helpful or incredibly destructive. All through the Book of Proverbs, we are given practical wisdom about how to use our words in appropriate and helpful ways.

July 12th – Work

Most of us will spend the majority of our week at work. God created us to be fulfilled by work. The Bible shows us that work is not a curse, nor a product of sin, but given to man as a blessing. In Proverbs, Solomon discusses many of the issues that we deal with on our jobs and gives us practical insight into how we are to live out our faith on our jobs and honor Christ in our work.

July 19th – The Home

What should I look for in a potential spouse? How do we build a foundation as a young couple? What are some marriage killers? The Book of Proverbs dives into the practical aspects of our marriages and gives us real insight into day to day struggles and temptations of couples.

July 26th – Money

It was a noble idea to print “In God We Trust” on US dollars, but the irony is that most of us trust in our finances far more than we trust in our Creator. Money can be the focus of worship and devotion, but Solomon tells us it’s greater to have little, than to have much. Wealth often creates problems because it is a poor source of happiness, and rich source of temptation. Remember that money isn’t everything. The blessing of wealth comes with practical moral risks, but God’s word gives us much help in managing it.

August 2nd – Friends

Our need for redemptive friendships is real and vitally important. We can either build friendships with wise people, or with fools. Solomon tells us to walk with wise friends because if we walk with fools, we will be lead astray. In building friendships, remember our greatest need is for a friendship that transcends the friendships of this world. We need the friendship of our Lord Jesus. He is the best, greatest, wisest, most faithful friend we can ever have.
